Evergreen school district is approximately 27,000 students in
Vancouver Washington
and vancouver washington is a suburb of Portland Oregon in the metropolitan area
we are community need every lacks the kind the demographic communities and the
state
and about approximately half my students are on free and reduced lunch
we have %uh for comprehensive high schools 6 comprehensive middle schools
and 20 elementary schools

are computer-assisted education are technology-based education
on has evolved in and what it's allowed us to do
do we start with a virtual experience moved a blended learning experience and
then start moving to really had a designer

I love that online education gives you an opportunity to have a really flexible
schedule
I also go to the skill center and in the criminal justice program
and I decided that once I got into that program that would be so much easier if
all my classes online project a structured time block
that I could actually and move around in and do things one day and then come home
and do my online work the other day
so I i jus it for flexibility so I teach middle school language arts
and it really provide students a great opportunity
to be able to you learn the content area effectively
online where they have learning management system with the curriculum
where they have the flexibility to be able to learn at any point during the
day that they
but like to depending on what kinda particular schedule that they have
thousand really enjoy that flexibility above everything else

and and since like having the option for taking the online courses
they like to be able to continue with that one language they've really wanted
to do.
or if they don't have room in their schedule for certain class spend the
online course give them some options to take it
after school they can do it and expand their

and that I know that I'm teaching my child was gonna be expected of him

for our students because it allows a great partnership between families
and our classroom families have more control of their child's education
and more one-on-one learning goes on at home
and here at school we have smaller classrooms. which allows
for more individualized attention gives a more opportunities for it
the socialization and the creativity while keeping families involved
I think that evergreen offers this because homeschooling
has become years there's so many people
that want quality education for their children but through this program
they're smaller classroom sizes italian girls were one-on-one attention and by
working with you
and I think the Evergreen chose this because they want to make sure the
parents who home-school
have some guidelines some support and if thats
parents feel like they can do this and I think it's a great program
to every in public schools created the world language program in all the middle
schools in the district
as a way to provide additional opportunities to students we don't have
a role language teachers
yeah in the middle schools and it was definitely a
a wanted the communities and the school districts to give those kids an
opportunity to do that are
Superintendent John Deere an art director secondary education 10th our
arm are always looking at ways to advanced students apply to acceleration
opportunities
on this was a great way to provide a high school credit
to students in the middle schools and given that chance to accelerate their
learning the students
are taking Chinese French German and Spanish they come into class each day
for first and second period here cascade and a login cue their coursework
and they begin to work on their lessons
on ignition ask one last June and I have like a little crazy for even enter high
school

in like the only time to take another like Spanish to
in high school sewing and I'll be a freshman
the biggest challenge we're looking to solve this
by additional opportunities to students we don't have a lot of offerings were
eliminated by size and scope
that we can provide teachers for and this was a way for us to provide
multiple language opportunities I that wouldn't be possible
have poor language is in one class for 30 kids
is a huge advantage the success isn't experiencing is
is beating all expectations I'll
we do provide credit so it's a very rigorous high school course
I'm it's an advanced course I meant students at leave here
need to prove proficiency in order to continue on
%uh the sixty kids last year that took the class none of them dropped
man all the mercy the high school credit for that and then enrolled in
their I'll the next course two consecutive course in the high school
and summer looking at AP world languages do academy as an alternative school
within the high school
here at Union and it's a school are part of the school that provides
a non-traditional learning environment for students who are
either credit deficient are hutu for emotional or social needs require a mark
carrying are smaller learning environment what we do is we
kinda Center the Academy within a community classroom
which is their English class Senate for juniors and seniors and then
aside from that you're able to take online classes
add credit recovery class is to you know stay on pace for graduation
do thing I like most about being a candidate
is I mean where one big happy family
they look out for as we look out for them if we need help
either online courses or in class where to help us our
I think her every program is anything going on it's giving them a chance to
make up for mistakes or chrome

their alternate program which they called it the Academy

like online learning because it's flexible in design
students are able to access it
in most cases at different times during the day they still have high
expectations to

more flexible for them ok
